Two-story and covered booths
A second story or a ceiling turns your booth into a building as far as the fire code is concerned. These rules come from each show's own 2026 or 2027 rules or the LVCC facility guide, named in each rule.

What to know
- RE+ 2026: two-story booths on islands only
At RE+ 2026, two-story (double-decker) and enclosed structures are allowed only in island spaces of at least 400 sq. ft., never in inline, peninsula, end cap, split island or perimeter spaces, and detailed plans go through Freeman's booth diagram submission.

- LVCC: plans to the fire office
At the LVCC, any single-level exhibit over 1,000 sq. ft., any covered area over 300 sq. ft. and every multilevel exhibit needs a CAD booth plan approved by the Safety and Fire Prevention Office. For CES 2027, those plans were due October 31, 2026.

- Upper decks need a Nevada engineer
Under the LVCC rules in the CES 2027 manual, an occupied upper deck needs a plan stamped by an engineer registered in Nevada. Multilevel areas over 300 sq. ft. or holding more than nine people need two separate exits, spiral stairs don't count as an exit, and covered or multilevel areas over 300 sq. ft. need battery smoke detectors.

- PPAI Expo 2027: 90 days and a stamp every year
PPAI allows multi-story exhibits only in island booths. You must notify PPAI in writing at least 90 days before opening and submit engineering-stamped plans every year, even for a booth approved before. If the upper level is over 300 sq. ft. you need two exits, a posted sign must give the maximum occupancy or load, and more than 10 people upstairs means a second stairway.
