What a Las Vegas hotel room really costs during a show

Leer en español

The nightly rate is only part of the bill. Resort fees, room tax and deposits add up, and show housing rules can cost you your booth if you book the wrong way. Here is what to check before you book.

What to know

The price you see must include resort fees

Since May 12, 2025, the FTC's fee rule requires hotels that show a price to show the total upfront, with mandatory fees such as resort fees included and the total more prominent than other prices. FTC staff call their guidance non-binding.

Taxes can still come later

The upfront total doesn't have to include taxes, but the hotel must disclose them before you pay, and the final amount must include them.

Room tax

Inside the City of Las Vegas, room tax is 13.38% in the Primary Gaming Corridor and 13% elsewhere, charged on the room and all related charges. Hotels outside city limits, in unincorporated Clark County, follow the county's rates.

Resort fees are taxed

For hotels in the City of Las Vegas, taxable room revenue includes resort fees and other mandatory fees, so room tax applies to the resort fee too.

Book through the show's housing company

Shows name one official housing company. The Irrigation Association says any other housing vendor that contacts you about its December 2026 show is a scammer. See the scam patterns page for how housing pirates work.

Some shows require it

HIMSS26 at The Venetian required every exhibitor to book housing through onPeak. Exhibitors who didn't could not exhibit and forfeited what they had paid. Read your show's housing policy before booking elsewhere.

Attrition

Room blocks come with attrition terms. At HIMSS26, companies holding 20 or more room nights paid for the shortfall if they used less than 90% of the nights reserved. Reserve only the rooms you'll fill.
